Joseph Albert Volz Jr.

In lieu of flowers the family of Joseph has asked that donations be made in his name to the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church Building Fund. Joseph Albert Volz, beloved father to many and friend to all, quietly passed onto the Lord in his sleep on Monday April 17, 2017.  He was 84 and he lived a full and complete life.

Joe was a fixture in the Huntington Beach community having lived and worked there since 1961.  He purchased his brand new home in the Huntington Valley Meadowview tract (Edinger Ave – Springdale Ave – Hiel Ave – Graham Ave) and lived there until the day he passed.

With his wife and three children, Joe was a founding member of St. Bonaventure Catholic church and was instrumental in developing the church and school as it is today.  Joe was involved with many aspects of the church, including the Catholic Detention Ministry and the Catechumenal Way, and he strove to deepen his faith at every opportunity.

In 1933 Joe was born in Manchester Connecticut as the eldest of three children.  At age 18 he joined the Navy and served with distinction aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kearsarge (CV-33) during the Korean conflict.  He was on-leave in Los Angeles when he fell in love with his future wife at the USO.  Joe worked for the Huntington Beach area aerospace and oil industries as an accomplished designer, draftsman, and engineer.

Joe trusted the love and mercy of God until his last day.  Joe has gone ahead to help prepare a way for his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, as well as his three children, his 20 grandchildren, and his 11 great-grandchildren.
