Robert Lee Shafer was born in Ohio on Jan 19th, 1933 to parents Albert Shafer and Irene Hyer. He was the youngest of four children, and is survived by his older sister Helen Oeters.
From the age of 14, Robert was involved with the church, and frequently said that was the age he began preaching. Though he had several jobs throughout his life, he never lost sight of his love of God, church, and preaching.
He served in the US Air Force after graduating early from his high school in Dayton, OH. His time in the Air Force sent him to Kansas where he met the woman he would marry: Miriam Walker. After a few years of their marriage, he and Miriam welcomed a daughter they named Cherryl, and two years later, a son they named Darryl.
Over the years, the Shafer family moved to various cities and states as Robert pursued his love of preaching. They settled in Colorado for several years before making their final move to California.
While in California, Robert took on a career in Hollywood that started as engineering, and eventually evolved into editing film for TV shows to popular movies worldwide. Even with his steady work in Hollywood, he never lost sight of his love of preaching, and he helped various churches all over by offering his services as a minister.
On April 26th, 2019, Robert passed away at the age of 86. Shortly after he closed his eyes to go to sleep for the night, he took his final breath.
Robert was beloved by so many people, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son Darryl, and his three grandchildren: Andrea, Darryl (Jr), and Rebecca.
Though he’s physically gone from us, there is comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his wife and all of those he lost in his lifetime – surrounded by love, peace, and joy.
