MERNA LOUISE YOUNG

MERNA LOUISE BRISTOW YOUNG joined her Lord and Savior on October 30, 2018. She was born on April 1, 1936, the daughter of Alfred T. (Lawrence, Indiana) and Mabel L. Bristow (Holton, Indiana) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Merna lived in Fountain Valley, California since 1987 and was a bookkeeper for Nutrilite Products in Buena Park, California. She retired from Sears Roebuck & Company in Greenwood, Indiana prior to moving to California.

Merna was an active member of Surf City Church in Huntington Beach and The Fount (United Methodist Church) in Fountain Valley. Her memberships and activities included Jobs Daughters, Delta Chi Sigma Sorority, United Methodist Women and volunteered for Reach Out and Read and Cuddle Up and Read at the Oak View School for many years.

A polio survivor, Merna developed a strong character and integrity few could match. Her faith led her to serve others through her church and civic involvement. She attended as many events at the Rancho La Siesta mobile home park as she could often helping with bingo and pitch-in dinners. Her signature van was often seen around Fountain Valley and Huntigton Beach in her efforts to serve.

Merna was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mabel Bristow, her brother, Phillip W. Bristow, her son, Dennis R. Young of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Bryan S. Bristow. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara A. Young; grandsons: David R. Young, Phillip H. Young, Adam N. Jones and Cheslie N. Jones; great-grandsons Julius Young and Braydon Rich.

Merna was grateful to her long-time friend Barbara Jones and her extensive church family. Those close to her during the past two years know her strength was tested and are particularly grateful to the care she received from Briarcrest Nursing Center in Bell Gardens, California and her attending physicians.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at Surf City Church, 2721 Delaware Street, Huntington Beach, CA  92648, at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2018, Pastor Anthony Boger presiding.  Arrangements have been made through Heritage Memorial Services, 17712 Beach Boulevard, Huntington Beach, CA. 92647.
