Martha Jean Flacks

Martha Jean Flacks was born July 13th, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Rae McCreery. She passed away April 23rd, 2019 at the age of 92. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lee Flacks, her son, John Watt Flacks, and her grandson, Edward Anthony Flacks. She is survived by her son Edward Flacks, daughters Pamela Byard and Patricia Andersen, nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Martha Jean was raised in Indianapolis, until her family moved to Detroit, Michigan. In 1948, she married Francis Flacks. Shortly after, they moved to Missoula, Montana and started a family. Edward was the first-born, followed by Pamela. Not long after, life lead them out to the West Coast, where they settled in Southern California and had 2 more children, John and Patricia. After the children were grown, Francis’ job led them back to Michigan for a few years. They soon returned to California and eventually settled in their last home in Costa Mesa, California. Martha Jean was a full-time mother, but after her children were all grown and married, she began working at a health food store. This ultimately led her and her husband to purchase a health food store of their own, The Health Fair in Laguna Niguel. They successfully ran their store until they retired in 2001.

She and Francis both enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends, attending Couples Club at their former church in Downey, and when their children were younger, they often went camping. Her favorite spot was Doris Creek.

Martha Jean was very active in her church at Christ Lutheran Costa Mesa.  Throughout her life, she was involved in LWML, attending many LWML Conventions. She faithfully attended bible studies, sang in choir, enjoyed Christ Care and participated in Advent by Candlelight. Additionally, Martha and her husband used their store as a platform to minister to others, professing their faith. Martha led by example.  To God be the glory for the life of His faithful servant, Martha Flacks.
