Guy Brallier Fluck III’s Life Story

Guy’s life story began January 19th, 1950 in Sacramento, California. He was the second born child in a family of four children born to his father Guy Sr. and mother Virginia Fluck. The family included four children: Laura, Guy, Louise & Gary. The majority of Guy’s childhood years were spent in Holly Park in the city of Hawthorne and his teenage years were spent in the City of Torrance. Guy Sr. worked at North American Aviation as an engineer and Virginia stayed home raising the four children. The family had many fond memories of their childhood; Guy’s most notable memories are the two cross country road trips the family took back east to Pennsylvania via their Rambler American station wagon.

From a very early age Guy showed a focused interest in cars. His dad fostered this interest by having Guy work on the family’s automobiles with him. Often Guy Sr. would bring home used cars with various automotive issues that Guy and his dad would then fix together. Guy furthered pursued his automotive interest during his studies at El Camino College where he completed courses in engine rebuilding and electronics.

Guy met Catherine Louise Ghiselin in the summer of 1969 and two years later they were married. They spent the second year of their marriage apart while Guy was stationed in Thailand serving his country during the Vietnam War. They faithfully stayed married for the next forty-six years.

After his second year at El Camino College, Guy enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. During his initial enlistment he took a skills assessment exam.  Predictably, he scored equally high in mechanical aptitude and electronics and was given the choice of pursuing either field within the Air Force. Guy chose electronics since it was an area where he thought he could gain the most knowledge and experience. He acquired the role of Missile Guidance and Control Specialist.

Upon Guy’s return from Thailand, Cathie and Guy restarted their life together. They spent periods of time in Las Vegas, Torrance, Gardena, and finally settled in Fountain Valley, CA where they would reside for the next thirty-eight years. During that time, Guy began an accomplished career as a steamfitter. In 1982 Guy and Cathie adopted a child and named him Matthew Darin. For the next thirty-five years Guy and Cathie would raise their child, enjoy family trips, start a business (HealthFax) and become born-again followers of Jesus.

Once Guy became a believer his whole outlook and personality changed. He still had his quirks (e.g. telling the same stories over and over again) and his hobbies (e.g. building and flying model airplanes and helicopters), but his spiritual transformation began to affect everyone around him as he shared the good news of the Gospel. The first and most profound impact was to Cathie his wife, as their love for one another was strengthened through their personal relationship with Jesus. They began to realize the value of a biblically based education for their son and subsequently enrolled him in Maranatha Christian Academy.

More and more Guy began to use his God given talents beyond their immediate use and utilized them to effectively share the good news of the gospel with friends, co-workers, and anyone who came into his life. He really developed a love for sharing the Bible with people of dissimilar faiths and enjoyed logically working through the scriptures. After twenty-six years he retired from steamfitting and devoted his time to helping his wife Cathie run a small and growing business, HealthFax, Inc.

Guy loved his family, friends and Jesus above all. Guy’s life mirrored the words that Paul used in 2 Timothy 4:5-8 “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
