Clarice D. (Defenbau) Corcoran

Corcoran, Clarice “Sue” was born January 22, 1924 in Highland Park, IL. Sue passed away peacefully in her sleep March 26, 2017.  She attended elementary and high school in Highland Park.  When WW II started she went to Washington, DC to work for the U.S. Government.  When the war was ended she volunteered to go to Germany with the occupation forces.  She was a Department of the army Civilian.  She was one of the first American girls in Berlin in December 1945.  She was in Germany for ten years.  In 1952 she met a young 2nd Lieutenant and a year later she married James C. Corcoran.  They were married for 63 years.  Sue traveled all over Europe while she was stationed there.  When her husband was transferred back to the United States she ended her ten years in Germany.  Now that she was back in the U.S. she continued to travel.  She went to North Africa, the Mediterranean Sea Area, South America, to the Arctic and to the Ant-Arctic, Australia, China, Russia and on one occasion she took a trip around the world with a group by herself.  Because of her husband’s involvement in competitive shooting, she became a range officer for the 1984 and 1996 Shooting Olympics.  Sue has lived here in Huntington Beach with her husband since 1978.  The world traveler will fly to her final resting place in New Orleans, LA.  A Vigil will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Heritage Memorial Services, 17712 Beach Blvd. Huntington Beach, CA following a visitation until 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday, April 5, 2017 10:00 am at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 16400 Springdale St. Huntington Beach, CA 92649

In lieu of flowers it is suggested donations may be made to Special Olympics or St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
